Walk, Shoot and Share!
Welcome to our new web site!
This site will provide a much better viewing experience for our photos then the older site.
The one wrinkle is that I was unable to port the password hashes from the old site. This means we will each have to create a new login on this site. The Signup-Login link is at the upper right hand corner of the page.
To keep the image quality up we are requiring that members post images that are at least 1400 pixels in the long dimension.
The old site will be available for another month or so here...
Members of S3 are invited to display their work in a special exhibit at the FAA Gallery from July 1 through September 23rd. I always encourage photowalkers to support the FAA with your membership.
If work is sold 20% of the money will go to the Fremont Art Association. FAA cuts checks monthly.
We are going to use the FAA's simplified photo receiving contract. Please fill it out completely.
There is no hanging fee or gallery sitting requirement to participate. The remainder of the terms are spelled out in the receiving contract. As always I assume no personal liability for any problems that may arise from your participation in this event.
If you submit multiple pieces list your order of preference for hanging. We are filling an uncertain space so it is better to have a little more work then less.
Photos should be wrapped and labeled on the back (name, phone, title, price, order), please wrap each piece individually in newspaper or foam, special packaging will be preserved and available when the work comes down.
Here is the receiving form
To get your work in the show call me and make an appointment to drop the photos and documentation off at my studio. I am located near Fremont and Decoto
I am away on assignment from the 26th to the 30th. To drop during that period call Greg Smith at (510) 742-7417 and he will receive the work. Greg's office is near the Newpark Mall.

1] Get acquainted with your camera - 7/1/2017
Please come with your camera, the manual and an empty memory card. We’ll review the basics: depth of field, exposure, film speed, focus… And you will go shooting on assignment.
2] Take better pictures - 7/8/2017
We will look at the pictures that you shot and talk about ways to improve taking the pictures. Cropping, contrast, composition, color correction, exposure problems… And you will go shooting on assignment.
3] Adjust reality to your own vision - 7/15/2017
Even if you know your camera well, and the conditions were ideal when you took the picture, you may not get the perfect shot. We will learn to use online graphic tools to enhance of modify the pictures. You will have an online assignment.
4] Some more considerations - 7/22/2017
With all previous lessons learned, we’ll review the best photos, we’ll talk about file management, printing, etc.
Join us for an epic week long expedition in the Northern Sierra. This is the 8th year of this event and we always have a great time and get some incredible pictures. Stay for the whole time or just a few days as your schedule permits.
We base out of Lee Vining CA and camp at the Lower Lee Vining (now called Moraine) Campground. If you like hotels there are plenty in Lee Vining, be sure to book your room early as they fill up during the season.
During the week we will have several full day locations and a number of half day locations. I look for hikes that start at 10,00 feet and have minimal elevation gain. We will go directly up to the approaches to some 11,000'+ peaks.
- Little Lakes Valley
- 20 Lakes Basin
- Tuolumne Meadows
- Mono Lake
- South Tufa
- South Tufa Night Shoot
- Black Point
- Twin Lakes
- Lots of Waterfalls
As we get closer to the event I will post more information.
Please RSVP for this as it gives me an idea of how many campers. We have been doing 4-5 tents per site.
